New name and identity

Background

Established in 1987 as Young Engineers and Science Clubs (YESC), is a project run and funded by Prosper. A major factor in their success comes via partnerships with some of the world’s biggest companies, like BP, SSE Renewables, Forestry Trust and Institute of Physics.

Feedback showed that the organisation’s name was difficult to say and wasn’t memorable with teachers or students.

While the YESC branding was upbeat and energetic, it didn’t represent science or STEM activities, looking more like a fitness or exercise club.

The existing STEM educational materials contained engaging and inspiring activities, but they looked firmly stuck in the 80s and uninspiring to modern, tech-savvy young people.

Result

Working with the team, a new name, Stemovators, was chosen to be individual and memorable – which better reflects youthful energy, creative thinking and problem solving.

A bold and dynamic new word-mark logo was designed which incorporates different STEM elements in the two letter O’s.

From this, a suite of graphics and templates were created for the team, helping inspire and engage with the next generation of young thinkers and doers.

Website

A new stand-alone website was designed, previously they only had a section within the Prosper website. With increased competition in the STEM world for partnership and funding from newer organisations, Stemovators needed to showcase their expertise and achievements. A series of animated SVG graphics were created that can be customised by colour, photography and elements all quickly and simply within WordPress.

For their social media channels, we created a flexible range of templates and bold, eye-catching graphic elements to really stand-out.

Client feedback

Change can be a difficult process – our organisation is almost 40 years old with a strong reputation and following, so naturally there was apprehension as we started this process.

However through our development sessions with Stuart we felt confident we were in good hands. I think the session where Stuart unveiled his initial designs and templates was where it all clicked for our team. Our new brand is vibrant, bold and captures some of the energy and excitement we bring to schools across Scotland.
